It’s one thing to see the Entourage Edge in a controlled demonstration by a company representative, something else entirely in the capable hands on CNET’s Ina Fried.

Ina of CNET walk us through with a prototype of the Marvell-powered, dual-display, 9.7-inch E Ink and 10-inch LCD hybrid with built-in WiFi. The video demonstartion after the break shows that Android-powered resistive touchscreen browsing the web and launching other apps from the familiar Android desktop. The E Ink display lets you read EPUB and PDF files, as you’d expect, in addition to taking notes and manipulating text with the help of an included stylus. You can also move content between the displays and record audio via a pair of mics (one to record the lecture, one to cancel the noise).

Unfortunately, Fried says that the device is still buggy and “definitely has the look and feel of a first-generation product.” Come on, have more heart with your products. Everyone seems to be racing to launch their pre-mature prototypes into the market.

However, by creating a 280-inch 3D LED display meant for public viewing doesn’t make a lot of sense long-term unless we’re expected to carry those swank, polarized glasses everywhere we go. Nevertheless, Sony has demonstrated that the 6.4 x 3.4-meter behemoth at the International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition 2009 in Japan.

The panel combines 70 LED displays into a single monstrosity of overlapping images. If nothing else this “3D LED Wall” demonstrates Sony’s rabid commitment to 3D for 2010 and an ominous future for our friends in Times Square. See it in action after the break if you care.

With man’s creativity, OLEDs can be modeled into a nice gown. English fashion designer Gareth Pugh put together an outfit made of flexible OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays. OLEDs are gaining popularity because they are more energy efficient than traditional LED screens.

A U.K. based company made the OLED display used in the gown that was shown earlier this week at a conference to promote plastic electronics. Plastic electronics technology allows circuits to be printed onto any surface and over large areas and is seen as a a low-cost alternative to conventional silicon-based electronics.

The dress is created from a special fabric coated with a thin, flexible layer of OLED film that can change color when triggered by an electronic signal. A microcontroller sewn into the fabric controls the signals.

The OLED dress is interesting but nowhere near as cool as the LED dress created by two London-based designers. The ‘Galaxy’ LED dress was embroidered with 24,000 full color LEDs and 4,000 hand-applied Swarovski crystals.

LTPS stands for Low Temperature PolySilicon LCD is an active matrix LCD screen that is faster and more integrated than screens made from amorphous silicon substrates.

Although amorphous silicon is capable in bringing active matrix industry to a new height, polysilicon is an alternative approach for certain applications like the iPod.

The picture is crisp, on par if not superior to any of the top range HD LCD and Plasma TV in the Penang market at the moment.

Imagine having this piece of baby, connected to the latest multi zone setup! Whoosh!!

Before we begin, lets understand the difference between an LCD Display and an LED Display. An LCD Display uses a backlight projection to light up the liquid crystals whereas, an LED Display uses LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). That means a LED TV and a OLED TV still needs liquid crystal to function.

Light Emitting Diode or LED is conceptually a diode, an electronic component which only allows electric current to travel in one direction.

Any new electronic student will tell you their initial rendezvous with LEDs when they started their electronic classes. The first few projects are usually running lights which are made up of rows of LEDs. In the larger industries, these magnificent piece of simple but beautiful component are used in traffic lights, headlamps, indicator lights and advertising billboards.

Source: Encyclopedia Britannica, Inc.

When a diode is connected to an electrical source, a diode is called forward biased. Electrons are pushed by the forward potential to recombine with holes inside the component. These release energy in the form called photons. The effect of all these combination produces electroluminescence. A CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) works under similar concept to that of a diode too. Color light emitted correlates to the photon’s energy level and is determined by the energy gap of the semiconductor.

An OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) operates in a similar fashion to the LED. The fact that it’s called a Organic LED is because OLED is produced by placing a series of organic carbon based thin films between the cathode and anode. When electric current is forced through these materials, light is emitted.

Sony would be coming out with a brand new TV technology. The technology is neither LED nor OLED, but could be a hybrid technology which insiders claim is easier and more cost effective to manufacture.

For the past 1 year, Sony has been working on a new display technology. Hiroshi Yoshioka, the head of Sony’s Consumer Electronics Division, said that it was crucial that Sony come out with her own unique TV technology.

Sony engineers are confident that they would have a breakthrough display technology that is on par with OLED technology but significantly cheaper to manufacture. The technology will also comply with tough power usage restrictions for display screens, being implemented around the world by various governments.
